Mount Starr (12,835') - July 30, 2006After a leisurely and late breakfast, Robin and I were wondering what kind of objective we could fit into our day that would be big enough to be worthy, yet small enough to be manageable in an afternoon. Mount Starr, a 12er with less than 3,000' of elevation gain and only 8 miles or so round trip fit the bill perfectly. |

Little Lakes Valley
Little Lakes Valley from the trail with some of the many mountains at the head of the valley. This area is justifiably quite popular. |
Mount Morgan
Mount Morgan from the trail through Little Lakes Valley. |
Trail Junction
Robin is at a trail junction on the way to Mt. Starr. The left fork heads to Ruby Lake, and from there, if you're hardcore, to Ruby Wall. The right fork takes the well trod path to Mono Pass, and then, for us at least, to Mt. Starr. |
Robin trudging along
Robin is walking up the sandy slope just south of Mono Pass. This leads to the summit ridge, which leads after quite a ways to the summit. |

Robin at the summit
Robin signing the summit register. The true summit of Starr seems to be difficult to find, being that it's the high point of a flat ridge, but it's obvious once you're there, especially since it's the only high spot with the summit register. |
Little Lakes Valley
Little Lakes Valley from the summit. It should be fairly obvious from this shot how it got its name. |
Jon at the summit
The usual gratuitous summit shot of Jon with the summit cairn behind him. |
Flowers
Some lupin along the trail through the lush Little Lakes Valley. |
